What Causes ADHD? ADHD, ie ‘Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder’, is a behavioral disease found in most children, which causes inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsivity in children. According to a research, food-colors used in food can cause many mental disorders in children. Although there is not enough evidence to link food dye to ADHD, many parents are concerned that food dye exacerbates ADHD symptoms, including hypertension. Although studies have not yet found whether it is increasing in children due to just one dye or any kind of food dye. On the other hand, many countries have already started giving warning signs on foods that contain more than six dyes.
ADHD is a disease combining brain structure, environmental factors, and heredity. A study of about 300 children by the Food Standards Agency of the United Kingdom showed that the consumption of dye foods may increase hyperactive behavior in children. In a study of 3-8 and 9-year-olds, children were given three different types of drinks to drink. Their behavior was then evaluated by teachers and parents. The colors used to enhance the symptoms of ADHD were also researched. In this research, foods dyed with blue color were nominated from number 1, red color with number 40 and yellow color with number 5. Researchers found that hyperactive behavior by 8–12 and 9-year-old children increased with both mixtures that contained artificial color additives. The hyperactive behavior of 3-year-old children increased with the first drink. They concluded that the results showed adverse effects on behavior after consumption of food dyes.
What is food dye?
Food Defood coloring contains chemicals used for coloring food. The dye is often used in foods, drinks and spices. They are used to maintain or improve the beauty and taste of food. Food dye is commonly used for many reasons. Such as to make color in colorless foods to provide stability when the color of food varies, and to attract people from the particular color of food, etc. Seeing these colors creates a desire for people to eat it and that is why they eat such products.
The role of food in ADHD
Several research has found that using food-dye has increased sensitivity and ADHD behavior in children. This makes children more angry and irritable. If they suddenly come in impulse, sometimes they suddenly react wrongly. Further research has also shown that inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsivity in children are also increasing due to lack of key nutrients required for brain development and functioning.
What you can do
Do not give children artificial sugar and dye food-products to eat. Instead, put more emphasis on protein, carbs and fiber. A healthy diet can help stabilize blood circulation and eliminate some symptoms of ADHD. Actually the functioning of the brain depends on blood circulation as the main energy source, and dye foods actually disturb the functioning of the brain by affecting blood circulation.
