Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez made secret Neymar contact after failed Barcelona move
The head of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, tried to sign Neymar of the PSG when his return to Barcelona failed.
According to reports, the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, tried to sign Neymar of Paris Saint-Germain after Barcelona lost hope of a transfer.
Neymar passed the summer transfer window with the hope of leaving the Parc des Princes for Camp Nou, just two years after his bitter departure from the Catalan club.
However, the transfer window ended with Neymar having to stay in France after Barcelona lost hope of signing it.
Perez’s admiration for the striker dates back to Neymar’s time in Santos.
Then, Real was interested in a movement with the star of Samba even aligning with Dani Carvajal during a trial at the Bernabéu.
But Barcelona discovered them in 2013 in a transfer agreement that still attracts attention even now.
The report says that Perez began to raise the bet when it came to signing Neymar from the PSG in March, shortly after the departure of the Champions League from the club to Ajax.
And when a transfer to Barcelona seemed dead last week, the Spaniard made his move.
It is claimed that Real told Neymar that they were willing to pay him the same box office salaries he earns at PSG.
The 27-year-old player earns about £ 35 million a year while strutting his stuff at the Parc des Princes.
But Neymar said no and, instead, said he would only leave the PSG to go to Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Carvajal admitted that both Neymar and Paul Pogba of Manchester United were talked about inside the club’s locker room.
“You saw that one day he went to Barca, another day he came with us, another day he stayed,” Carvajal said, speaking with COPE.
“We asked the Brazilians and they told us they didn’t know. I was in doubt. He is a player in the top five or in the top three. Such a player is welcome on any team.
“Pogba also sounded good. Transfer dates close differently everywhere and in the end it has not arrived.
“We are who we are, and we cannot think of someone who is not with us.”
Neymar is now trapped in the PSG until early January, but it remains to be seen whether Barcelona or Real Madrid will go to the PSG this winter.
The giants of Ligue 1 would prefer to sell Neymar to Real because of their tense relationship with Barcelona.
