Man City defender Laporte undergoes knee surgery
Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte underwent knee surgery after damaging his cartilage and lateral meniscus in his 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, Premier League champions said Wednesday .
The 25-year-old, who had been summoned by France for his 2020 Eurocup qualifiers against Albania and Andorra, was taken on a stretcher after turning Adam Webster of Brighton and going worse.
“Aymeric Laporte underwent knee surgery after damaging his cartilage and lateral meniscus during Saturday’s victory over Brighton,” City said in a statement here.
“The surgery, performed by Dr. Ramon Cugat in Barcelona, was successful and a more detailed prognosis will be provided in due course. Everyone in City wishes Aymeric a full and quick recovery. ”
Laporte established himself as a key player in manager Pep Guardiola’s bottom line last season, playing 35 league games and started all four games in the current season.
The injury of the French means that the City only has Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones, who are fighting a thigh problem, as their main central defenders after Vincent Kompany’s departure in the closed season.
The return of the city to the league action against the promoted Norwich City on September 14.
