What is slapped scream syndrome or fifth disease?
Dr. Nivedita says, most people know slapped scream syndrome as Fifth disease. One is a disease caused by a virus, called parvovirus B19 (parvovirus B19). Usually, this virus affects young children more. This disease is contagious and can spread in a person by respiratory drops, saliva or blood, that is, it can be spread by going too close to the infected person or sneezing and coughing.
Do only children have this disease?
Fifth disease syndrome can occur not only to children, but also to elders. However, children are at high risk and due to being contagious, they can also become victims. One thing to be noted here is that the symptoms of this disease can be more severe in children than in adults. Usually children who have had this disease have anti-bodies against it in their body, so they do not fall prey to it when they grow up. Although this disease is not dangerous, but if it happens to pregnant women, then some serious problems can happen, such as anemia or a serious problem in the fetus.
What are the symptoms of Fifth Disease?
Common symptoms of Fifth Disease include mild fever, fatigue, body rashes etc. These rashes are predominantly on the cheeks and this is why it is also called slapped scream syndrome. Apart from this, the risk of this infection is most in the cold season or in the spring. Once the rashes occur, the children are no longer contagious, so they reduce the risk of spreading the infection. The symptoms of this disease are as follows-

These symptoms usually begin within 4 to 10 days of exposure to the virus and often become severe.

What is Fifth Disease Treatment?
There is no specific medication or treatment for Fifth Disease or Slapped Chick Syndrome. In healthy people and children, this problem resolves on its own in 2 to 3 weeks. But in adults, its symptoms can be severe and there can be some other problems, such as joint pain, swelling in the body, etc. If the symptoms are severe, you should contact a doctor to treat this infection. For this, doctors can give you some medicines. Generally, water should be drunk when there is a problem of fifth disease.
